Tesla has surpassed financial expectations for the third quarter of 2026, reporting revenue of $28.05 billion and earnings of $0.48 per share. These figures exceeded analysts’ predictions of $27.9 billion in revenue and $0.43 per share. However, the company noted a slight decline in revenue compared to the previous quarter, which stood at $28.23 billion, and a 3% drop in automotive revenue from the same period last year.
During Tesla’s earnings call, CEO Elon Musk raised the possibility of merging Tesla with SpaceX, his aerospace and artificial intelligence company. Musk acknowledged the potential benefits of such a merger but did not provide specific details. He mentioned that special committees from both companies’ boards are evaluating the proposal, although no agreement on transaction terms has been reached. Approval from at least 50% of Tesla’s shareholders would be necessary for the merger to proceed.
Tesla continues to broaden its horizons beyond electric vehicles, with ventures into artificial intelligence, autonomous driving, robotics, and renewable energy. Despite these advancements, the company faces challenges, such as expanding its Robotaxi service fleet and production issues with its Optimus humanoid robots. Musk remains optimistic, asserting that humanoid robots could become a major global product category.
The company also contends with increasing competition from Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers offering lower-priced options. These challenges underscore Tesla’s efforts to maintain its technological edge while pursuing ambitious goals in emerging sectors.
