President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to claim that the Iranian military has been “obliterated” and is in no position to survive a prolonged war. Trump alleged that Iranian officials are “strange” for privately pleading for a ceasefire while publicly feigning indifference to the 15-point U.S. peace plan. He warned the clerical regime to “get serious soon” before the U.S. proceeds with the total dismantling of the country’s power and energy grid.

The 2026 war was triggered by a massive air campaign that reportedly resulted in the death of the Iranian Supreme Leader in late February. Washington’s 15-point proposal aims to capitalize on this military advantage by requiring Iran to ship its nuclear fuel out of the country and accept strict missile limits. Central to the plan is the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which has been a primary target of U.S. naval operations to restore global oil flow.

In a show of defiance, Iranian state television has broadcast its own counter-demands, including reparations for war damages and the recognition of its sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran has also demanded a complete halt to the targeting of its officials and an end to all US-Israeli “assassinations.” These conflicting sets of demands have created a diplomatic stalemate, even as mediators in Turkey and Egypt attempt to facilitate a compromise.

The regional impact of the war is visible in the massive displacement of millions of people in Iran and Lebanon fleeing active combat zones. Reports indicate that over 2,600 people have died in these two nations alone, while 13 American soldiers have been killed in retaliatory strikes. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz has forced global shipping companies like Maersk to reroute around Africa, adding weeks to transit times and driving up costs.

President Trump’s decision to extend the strike deadline to April 6 provides a final 10-day window for a diplomatic offramp. He noted that talks are “going very well” despite what he calls “Fake News” reports of an impasse, but maintained that the outcome “won’t be pretty” if the deadline passes without a signed deal. The world now waits to see if the Iranian leadership will yield to the 15-point proposal.
